Standing in Hanover and Elm Grove
Profession: Property Manager

Dear Voter

I have lived back in Brighton and Hove for nine years and am delighted to be standing as a Friends of Brighton and Hove Independent in Hanover and Elm Grove where two generations of my mother’s family have lived and continue to live.

Having known the Ward all my life, I remember when the first Low Traffic Neighbourhood LTN then known as ‘traffic calming measures’ were brought in as a child in the late 70s, when a number of Hanover streets were made one way, cul-de-saced or given chicanes with planters.

It makes no sense in 2023 to try and impose a new LTN on top of an existing LTN and against the majority of residents’ wishes.

With a high-profile background in campaigning on local issues, many transport-related, including starting the 2020 campaign to re-open Madeira Drive when a short-sighted council closure threated to lose the city £millions in events and visitor parking revenue each year which eventually led to reversal, I believe I represent Hanover and Elm Grove’s best chance of defeating the LTN threat in view of the fact that both Labour and the Greens seem determined to keep an LTN of some form on the table without offering a ‘Do nothing’ option, as all legitimate consultations should.

I am also part of the Save the Brighton General campaign and care passionately about keeping this wonderful asset in the community and repurposing it for community and housing use once the NHS have finished with it.

Finally I stand for clean and well-weeded streets. You don’t just deserve them. You pay for them and it is the council’s job to ensure you get them, not the council taxpayers’.

Every candidate promises change. But this candidate is only interested in change for the better, and with no national party ties to bind, I am free to work purely for you.
