Standing in Brunswick and Adelaide
Profession: Retired local business owner

Dear Voter

I have lived in Brighton and Hove for 50 years, raised a family here and run a successful seafront café for many of those years and am delighted to be running as an Independent candidate for Friends of Brighton and Hove, whose values are in alignment with my own.

When I first opened my café Brighton and Hove had a carefree bohemian spirit with everyone laughing and enjoying themselves which I loved.

Nowadays, although our city continues to welcome all comers from all corners of the world and all walks of life, it seems many people are walking around with a heavy heart and our city has gone into steep decline on so many levels.

I have grown angry about how the national parties seem to have taken turns to ruin our city and run it into the ground and determined to do something about it.

The Green and Labour coalition has been a particular disaster with its attempts to banish cars, events and parking, and therefore, money, from the city, when they should be supporting local business and tourism in a post-pandemic recovery.

My greatest ambition is to see Brighton and Hove reinstated as Britain’s premier seaside tourist resort again.

I want to see the following;

  1. More public toilets including reopening the underground toilets on Hove Lawns for the able-bodied leaving the above ground toilets for the disabled and parents with pushchairs.

  2. A seafront shower and left-luggage facility, maybe including retro ‘bathing machines’ for the growing number of sea swimmers.

  3. All heritage restored

  4. All potholes and roads mended

  5. Streets and paths properly weeded

  6. More general street cleanliness and street signs replaced where missing.

  7. Beachfront lifeguards reinstated

  8. A sensible solution to the duplicate cycle lanes.

  9. A reversal of disability discrimination in seafront parking and access to the sea.

  10. A return to the excellent scratchcard parking system for visitors we once had – available in all shops – which makes parking easy and supports local businesses plus a fairer parking permit scheme for residents.
I am passionate about this city and bringing the smiles back to everyone’s faces, whether residents or visitors.

Let’s go back to what we always did best – welcoming people here.

A vote for Dave Hall is a vote for someone who actually cares about our Ward and promises a city-first approach with no national party ties to bind. As a retired but young-at-heart individual I can also devote myself to being a Councillor who works tirelessly for YOU.
