Jan Turner

Standing in: Preston Park

Profession: Graphic Designer/illustrator

Dear Voter

I have lived in Brighton and Hove for ten years, having moved to the city to be closer to family and am delighted to be standing as the Friends of Brighton and Hove Independent candidate for Preston Park.

I have run my own business for twenty years and raised three children alone, one profoundly disabled. I was also disabled myself as a result of a road traffic accident 25 years ago.

Because I have been through so much in my life and subsequently trained in trauma counselling I believe I have much to offer as a Councillor who can appreciate the hardships and challenges of others.

I would like to take the lead on disability, mental health and welfare issues in the city if elected as there is much discrimination and inequity to be addressed.

In Preston Park I would seek to see more emphasis on public wellbeing including the public toilets being reopened – a must for disability issues – and life made easier for local businesses including cheaper trader permits.

A vote for me, Jan Turner, on 4th May is a vote for compassion and common sense with a city-first approach.
